The Inspiration
Linear cuts are carved into this thick piece of metal leaving deep grooves. The lines stop short and may pick up elsewhere creating a random linear pattern. As the lines are carved, a tooling chatter is left in the valleys of the cuts adding to the organic look of the surface.
Translated to Aluminum
Translated to an aluminum finish, the scale has been reduced slightly and the lines have been elongated. A selective brush over bright aluminum is used to create the cut lines and give the finish a flip. A subtle halftone is added to create depth as well as create the tool chatter in the valleys. Selective areas of texture are added with an overall matte gloss completing the look.
