50th Anniversary Ford Mustang
challenge
Create a custom machined finish across mating parts in a set
solution
Traditionally the interior trim decoration in the Ford Mustang has featured a brushed metal look. For the 50th anniversary edition Ford wanted to retain the authentic metal look but elevate the finish beyond brushed aluminum.
Meeting and discussions between Northern Engraving and the Ford Design team resulted in a collaborative process to design a custom finish based on exploration of mechanical finish options, taking into consideration the need for multiple parts in the car set with varying shapes and sizes.
Multiple variations were trialed until the desired look was achieved. The result is a large machined metal look that has the visual depth of a single sweeping engine stripe. It keeps the classic look while taking a leap outside of traditional decoration.
